Apprenticeship research
The Apprenticeship Hub commissioned Yorkshire Learning Providers to undertake an initial review of the apprenticeship provision across the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding (YNYER) region to begin to identify where there are gaps in apprenticeship provision/demand, in order to encourage greater uptake and growth in apprenticeships across the region.
The report explores the latest apprenticeship data, labour market intelligence (LMI), currently available local apprenticeship provision and additional or new sectors or standards that are required to meet YNYER employer and regional needs.
Pride in FE - LGBTQ project
WYLP are proud to be partnering with Skillsfirst, Association of Colleges and LGBTed on our Pride in FE project which we have received funding from the ETF to provide FE leaders with the opportunity to develop their skills to provide inclusive curriculums and environments for LGBTQ+ staff and learners.
We are the only organisation focusing the EDI funding on the LGBTQ community and are proud to be able to champion this crucial agenda to bring greater equality for LGBTQ+ learners and staff in FE.
“From discussions with practitioners LGBTQ+ is an area which they can feel less confident to address and as such this tends not to be embedded through curriculums rather than addressed if an issue presents itself. This needs to change to bring about greater inclusions and environments which LGBTQ+ staff and learners can present as their true authentic selves and feel confident to address any issues which arise. For many it’s the fear of ‘getting it wrong’ when actually doing something and learning is better than doing nothing. Through the project we want to open up honest conversations and have open platforms so that together we can address challenges as a network and build the confidence and knowledge to be able to address this crucial agenda and ensure that LGBTQ+ inclusion carries on throughout the full learners journey.” – Kelly Townend Operations & Quality Manager
“Skillsfirst is extremely proud to be a lead partner in this project.
Without inclusive education, so many LGBTQ+ learners feel, isolated, or even unwanted in education. This project opens up a positive discussion around identities and hopefully will provide the tools and support needed to create a more welcoming, safe and supportive environment for all LGBTQ+ learners and education staff” – Mark Child Head of Assessment and LGBTQ+ Lead

Skills For Jobs – Fe White Paper – WNY Learning Providers Response
“At W&NY Learning Providers we support much of the white paper, how it details plans for our sector and the statements it makes on addressing the needs of improving skills and reforming the FE landscape. The overarching narrative within the paper is in putting employers central to the future skills system – which although we support, is certainly something we
have heard before in other Government strategies and we must not forget our commitment to learners at all levels of education, social mobility and levelling up.
However, there are definitely new ways of improved working highlighted within this reform that we will not have dealt with before, but I believe as we already have excellent, strong relationships with the chamber and other business membership bodies (FSB, CBI, LEPs etc) we are in a great position to support the roll-out of the FE reform for the employers & communities we serve locally. I believe this reform provides a good opportunity for providers and the network to further develop & grow engagement with employers and help shape a local skills curriculum that is as
successful & impactful, as our members are truly at the heart of any employer-led strategy”. Alex Miles, WNY Learning Providers, Managing Director

The announcement of WYLP joining the partnership comes at a great time for Education & skills across the North, with the development of the Northern Skills Network – a partnership of 9 local provider networks coming together for a single agenda of enhancing and developing the skills system across the North of England, in which WYLP is a board director, a heightened focus on developing the North transport and skills gaps as stated by the new Prime Minister Boris Johnson, plus the discussions around devolution in Yorkshire and WYLPs MD Alex Miles joining the Leeds City Region Employment & Skills Board.
